Washington, D.C. – Yesterday afternoon the U.S.-Mexico Foundation (USMF) attended the swearing-in ceremony of Roberta S. Jacobson as Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs. Ms. Jacobson was the Acting Assistant Secretary since July 18, 2011 and she served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs from December 2010 until July 2011. From June 2007 she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Canada, Mexico and NAFTA issues in the Bureau. Previously Ms. Jacobson served as Director of the Office of Mexican Affairs from December 2002. Through her long and distinguished career she has been responsible for covering issues such as civil-military relations, human rights, foreign assistance and counternarcotics throughout the hemisphere, in addition to responsibilities managing personnel and serving as a senior advisor in a number of roles.
USMF was represented at the swearing-in ceremony by Martha Smith, President and CEO, and Zuraya Tapia, Director of the Mexican American Leadership Initiative and Communications. “We are incredibly fortunate to have such a champion for a positive bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Mexico in Roberta and USMF looks forward to supporting her work as Assistant Secretary of State through our work with the Mexican American Leadership Initiative.
