Luis Téllez Kuenzler is the President of everis Mexico. Previously he was the chief executive officer, chairman, and general director of the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores. He previously served as managing director for the Carlyle Group. Before joining Carlyle, Téllez was the executive vice president and chief executive officer of DESC. He served as a director of Fomento Económico Mexicano, Global Industries Ltd. and Grupo Kuo, Southern Copper Corp., and as director of Petroleos Mexicanos. Téllez has also held the positions of Mexico’s secretary of communication and transportation from 2006 to 2009, secretary of energy from 1997 until 2000, chief of staff to President Zedillo from 1994 to 1997, head economist at the Ministry of Treasury from 1987 to 1990, and undersecretary of planning at the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources from 1990 to 1994. He is currently the chairman of the board for CCV, Indeval, MexDer, SIF ICAP, Valmer, and Bursatec; and he is director of Sempra Energy, Casa de Cambio Monex, Femsa, and Grupo Mexico. He is also a member of the Business Council of the Reforma newspaper and counselors of Kissinger McLarty Associates. He serves as a board member of Fundación Televisa, Fundación Onete, and Universidad Iberoamericana, and he is chairman of the technical committee of Fideicomiso Asigna. Téllez has a Bachelor's degree in economics from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de Mexico, summa cum laude, and a PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
