Howard Butt III began his career with H-E-B in Store Operations. After managing several stores in San Antonio, he became a District Manager in Waco from 1976-1978.
After completing his MBA in 1979, Howard returned to Store Operations and became a District Manager in San Antonio. In 1981 he moved to McAllen, Texas, where he served as Director and then Vice President of the Southern Division, an area comprising 30-35 stores from Brownsville to Del Rio.
In 1986 Howard transferred back to San Antonio, where he became Vice President of Manufacturing for over seven years, responsible for H-E-B’s milk, ice cream, bakery, bread, and tortilla plants in San Antonio and Corpus Christi.
In 1994 he began to spend the majority of his time heading up a feasibility study regarding the expansion of H-E-B supermarkets into Northern Mexico. This culminated in the opening of the 1st H-E-B store in Monterrey in early 1997. H-E-B presently operates 45 stores in Mexico and employs 8,500. Howard has resided in Monterrey since 1997. He is married to Pamela, and they have three children.
